Our Pastor

Pastor Carlton O. Sylvester, Sr. was born, September 21, 1955 and is the first son of the late Odell and Katie Sylvester. He attended the Houston public schools and graduated from Sam Houston Sr. High School. The word of God was instilled in Pastor Sylvester at an early age and he served as a faith member of the Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Robert M. Shepherd.

Upon completion of high school, Pastor Sylvester enlisted in the U.S. Army Corp., at which time he accepted the call into the Gospel Ministry of Jesus Christ. While serving in the military, Pastor Sylvester was licensed and ordained to carry God's Word.

After his discharge from military service in 1979, Pastor Sylvester returned home to continue his service to the Lord at his home church under the leadership of Rev. Mack A. Paul.

In 1985, God ordered his footsteps to the doors of New Hope Baptist Church.  Three years later, Pastor Sylvester was elected by the congregation to the office of Assistant Pastor, where he faithfully served under the leadership of the late Rev. S. V. Adolph Sr. for over 20 years.

On June 6, 2008, after many years of faithful service, and in accordance to the Infinite Wisdom of God, Pastor Sylvester was elected to the office of Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. He was installed into the office of Pastor on August 3, 2008 by Rev. Mack A. Paul and has continued his mission to rebuild, restore, and lead souls to Christ. 

Pastor Sylvester is an active member of the Lincoln Southern District Association where he serves dutifully.

Pastor Sylvester is also a dedicated family man.  He has been married to his wife of 12 years, Mary (Wiley) Sylvester who serves by his side in the work of the Lord.

He is the fifth pastor to serve in the history of the church.
